What’s Lurking Behind Your Mask? 6 things you can do…

Face masks aren’t just for medical professionals anymore, and with their growing use, we’re seeing more and more clients concerned about underlying skin conditions. So much that there is now a new catchy name for mask acne called Mask’ne.

Wearing a mask for an extended period of time can trap moisture and bacteria on your face causing irritation, tiny bumps that can be felt but not necessarily seen-yet, or visible conditions like acne and rosacea.

Here are 6 things you can do to reduce the likelihood of suffering from Mask’ne:

• If you must wear a mask 8+ hours every workday, consider disposable masks, or use a clean, eco-friendly cloth-made mask every day.
• Investigate if the use of a face shield would be an appropriate alternative to a mask that is worn directly against your skin.
• Wash your reusable cloth mask after each use to prevent the build-up of bacteria on the inside, as well as washing away environment pollutants from the outside.
• If you work in hot conditions, do heavy exercise, or just find that you sweat a lot, wear a mask made from a moisture-wicking fabric.
• Create a refreshing scent spray for your mask by adding a few drops of essential oils to water in a mister. Be sure to let the mask thoroughly dry before wearing it!
